INFAH delegation visits Visakhapatnam

HUDHUD the recent super cyclone in Visakhapatnam coast had a devastating effect on the city of Visakhapatnam and the adjoining villages causing major damage of livestock and agriculture apart from the damages to so many commercial establishments and residences. Poultry farmers in particular were at the receiving end. It is estimated that the loss to Poultry Industry is approximately Rs 500 Crores. Approximately 35 lakhs to 40 lakhs poultry birds (both layers & broilers) were perished.

Over the years the Poultry farmers of this area have grown significantly due to their strong determination with Quality Management Practice and innovative marketing approach. Animal Health Industry has also contributed to this growth with its quality products and services and a holistic healthcare approach.

INFAH – the Indian Federation of Animal Health Companies vision and mission resonates with cause of its major stake holders, the Farming community. With news of devastation due to HUDHUD, INFAH decided to stand by the farmers of Visakhapatnam. On 29th December, 2014 a delegation of INFAH lead by its President Mr Satish Pasrija, General Secretary Dr D.K.Dey, Treasurer Dr P.G.Phalke , Mr Hariprasad along with Mr D.S. Subramaniam of Tara Group met Mr. Ramkrishna Chowdary (Chairman, NECC- Vizag Zone), Mr. Rama Raju (Secretary- APPF), Mr. Rama Rao ( NECC –Central Committee Member) and many leading local poultry farmers and a delegation of Poultry Press at Hotel Novotel, Visakhapatnam.

While welcoming the delegates Mr D. S. Subramaniam of Tara group appreciated the role of APPF, NECC, Poultry press and INFAH for taking initiative and participate for this noble cause. Mr Satish Pasrija, President- INFAH appreciated the resilience of farmers in Vizag area and the support rendered by various Poultry Associations along with media for rebuilding the Poultry Industry following the cyclone. He pledged INFAH’s support for the cause. Mr Hariprasad of Zoetis empathized with the farmers for the losses incurred by them due to HUDHUD and support generated for rebuilding the Industry in his Telugu speech.

This was followed by brief speech by Mr Rama Raju (Secretary- APPF), Mr Ramakrishna Chowdary (Chairman, NECC-Vizag zone), Mr Rama Rao(NECC –Central Committee Member). They appreciated INFAH’s initiative in this regard and requested INFAH’s support for building a Diagnostic Laboratory at Vizag which will result in a long term benefit to the farmers.

While giving a customary Vote of thanks, Dr Phalke touched the heart of the entire audience. He individually thanked each delegate, all the leading Associations namely APPF, NECC and the Poultry Press. Dr Phalke specially thanked Mr Subramaniam for his proactive support for organizing such an event and assured on behalf of INFAH to give full support and participate in promotion of poultry in Vishakhapatnam.

On 30th December whole delegation of INFAH visited some of farms which were badly affected by HUDHUD.
