Indian Federation of Animal Health Companies

Indian Pharmacopoeia commission (IPC) organized 'Brain Storming meeting on Indian Pharmacopoeia - Veterinary Monographs' for the forthcoming edition of Indian Pharmacopoeia 2014 at IPC-IPL, Ghaziabad during 23-24th of January 2013. IPC is an autonomous institution of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India, which set standards of drugs in the country. IPC regularly update the standards of drugs commonly required for treatment of diseases prevailing in India.

Under the invitation of Chairman of the working Group Dr. Rishendra Verma and Dr. Raman Mohan Singh, Principal Scientific Officer, Indian Pharmacopoeia Laboratory, manufactures and importers of veterinary drugs and vaccines in India attended the brain storming meeting. Various issues and bottlenecks of Indian Pharmacopoeia 2010 were discussed and suggestions were proposed by the members of the Industry, Government Institutions like State Biological Manufacturers and National Institute of Animal Health (NIAB), Baghpat.

Members of INFAH participated with full enthusiasm and shared their scientific knowledge with IPC which bring I.P on par with highest standards prescribed by other Pharmacopoeias such as British Pharmacopoeia, European Pharmacopoeia, 9 CFR.

Dr. Raman Mohan Singh while invited the dignitaries and members of Industry and Government bodies, mentioned that I.P standards are continuously reviewed and updated in order to imbibe new scientific developments and to meet the new challenges in the disease fronts faced by the nation. He also mentioned that IPC is currently working on providing reference standards for various drugs and microorganisms.

Dr. G. N. Singh, DCGI appreciated the enthusiasm shared by the Veterinary drugs manufacturers and mentioned that the standards for Veterinary drugs shall as goods as human drugs. He also suggested IPC colleagues to involve INFAH in future meetings of Animal Health Companies.

Dr. Rishendra Verma, who chaired the two day brain storming session said that I.P standrards for drugs should be set based on scientific research conducted by IVRI and other Institutions considering the impact of Animal Health in National Development in larger perspective.

INFAH and its members sincerely thanked the organizers Dr. Rishendra Verma and IPC for fruitful meeting and look forward to work with this wonderful team of IPC officials and industry colleagues in future for the betterment of Animal Health and Livestock Industry in India. I.P 2014 when implemented will imbibe strength on us to face new challenges of carrying forward Indian drugs and vaccines to global markets.
